Ponta do Ouro is a little slice of heaven and it’s closer than you think. This coastal town can be found on the Eastern coast of Mozambique, just North of the South African border (15 km to be exact). It’s ideal for a weekend break-away that feels a lot further away from the restraints of daily life in Gauteng than it is. This unforgettable destination is ideal for escaping the Highveld’s winter cold with its laid back atmosphere and pristine white beaches. Scuba diving conditions are generally tranquil with good visibility. Expect great diversity from the 18 off-shore coral reefs. “Ponta” as most seasoned visitors refer to it, is home base to one of the largest whale shark tagging programs in the world. The area has some of the highest numbers of sightings worldwide.
