Join us at GEKO on an epic First-of-its-Kind Diving & Clean-up Adventure to the one and only Sodwana Bay and Kosi Bay Mouth!
Did you know… that Sodwana Bay is located within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, the first World Heritage Site recognized in South Africa?
Did you know… that Sodwana Bay is rated by PADI to be one of the top dive sites in the world?
Did you know… that Kosi Bay Mouth is known as “the Aquarium” because of the clarity of the water and the abundance of fish species.
Did you know… that the iSimangiliso Wetland Park contains some of the richest remaining pockets of sand forest left in Southern Africa and is also home to a wide array of marine fossils?
This trip is special in many ways! In-between the wonderful diving in the warm tropical waters of the Indian Ocean, we will be hosting a Beach Clean-up to try and rid the beloved beach and coastal marine environment of as much debris and waste as possible.
On the Saturday morning we will be traveling to the beautiful Kosi Bay Mouth to meet up with the community schoolchildren and our other affiliates to clean the mouth and near-pristine coastal environment of any waste we can find! On the walk we will have the chance to look at the traditional fishing kraals used by the Tsonga people for centuries to sustainably hunt fish, as well as a variety of endemic plant species and different species of mangrove, not to forget the wide array of marine creatures!
Together with the clean-ups we will be taking a more in-depth look at the sandy shores and rocky shores at Sodwana Bay and the ecosystems involved in these very important (and sometime overlooked) habitats.
Be the change you want to see, join the movement!
Furthermore, we will have a look at the impact we as humans and our consumptive habits have on the oceans, why it is so important and how we can start making a positive change – even from home in the city!
Help us to protect our oceans! Do your part to help conserve this paradise for generations to come!
